Ever since their formation in 2012, The Vanns have been very busy. After winning the Red Bull Bedroom Jam in 2012, all their cards have been coming up in ace of spades. The Vanns have supported great local acts like Jinja Safari, The Getaway Plan, and Sticky Fingers, and they can tick performing a set at Homebake Festival off their list too. Now, having recently recorded their debut EP, The Vanns have set out on a national tour with Chase City. Pretty big achievements for a band that hasn’t been around too long. We recently got the boys to answer a few questions, with some answers that might surprise you!
BS: Introduce the band members with what they play in the band, and what their spirit animal is:
James Vann – Guitar and Lead Vocals – House Cat
Bob Korber – Keys and Backing vocals – Bottle-nose Dolphin
Adam Bernich – Bass – Octopus
Lachlan Jones – Drums – Dingo
BS: Who would you cite as your biggest influence?
Kings Of Leon, INXS, Hungry Kids Of Hungary.
BS: How did you find the recording process for your EP? Did you face any problems?
The recording process actually went really smooth. Recorded the first 3 tracks in Melbourne with Jan Skubiszewski (Way Of The Eagle) in about 5 days, and then the last 2 tracks back home with Adam at Mainstreet. Even the mastering only took a few days!
BS: What is your favourite song to perform live and why?
‘Don’t Hold Me Back.’ It’s the song we’ve had the longest, there hasn’t been a show where we haven’t played it so everyone knows most of the words by now. And it’s just a super fun song!
BS: If you could have one celebrity endorse your music, who would you want it to be?
Bruno Mars. Even though we aren’t the same genre, and we aren’t influenced by him, and he’s in the commercial world, we still see him as one of the best song writers and producers at the moment. And to have him endorse us would be a dream!
The Vanns will support Chase City in Sydney on December 4th at Spectrum, and in Wollongong on December 5th at Rad as part of their tour.
