News has broken tonight that flight AH5017 has now been confirmed missing. The passenger jet was flying from Burkina Faso to Algeria, and disappeared from radar approximately 50 minutes after take off. There were 110 passengers and 6 crew on board.
AOL reports that “the official Algerian news agency said air navigation services lost track of the Swiftair plane 50 minutes after takeoff – at 0155 GMT. Flight AH5017 had been missing for hours before news was made public”.

The airline have confirmed that they have initiated an emergency plan to find the missing plane, with reports that the flight path taken was one considered ‘high risk’ by US sources, as civil unrest continues in the territory of Mali.
