WATCH: Footage from the Simpsons/Family Guy crossover that absolutely nobody wanted.

I hope that everyone hasn’t forgotten that multiple-year period when the Simpsons used to constantly rip on Family Guy for being an inferior rip-off, because the producers of both shows involved certainly have.

The first footage from the cross-over ‘event’, set to air in the US on September 28 has hit the web, courtesy of this years Comic-Con. You can watch/cringe for yourself below:

So why now? The cynical part of me sees it as nothing more than a quick grab for money and ratings. The logical part of me is having trouble viewing it as anything more than that either. Either way, it’s happening – and it’s one part nonsensical plot points, the other part jokes that you could see coming from at least half a decade ago.

Of course, full judgement should be reserved into the two-part episode goes to air, but if that 5 minute preview is anything to go by, it makes for a very compelling argument as to why both shows should think about taking a one-way trip to the fireworks factory.
