Here’s something light-hearted in the wake of today’s upsetting news: Beloved Aussie childrens cartoon and ABC Kids mainstay Blinky Bill has been greenlit by Screen Australia for a big-screen revival.
The cartoon was noted at the time for taking quite a firm pro-nature stance when it came to matters of conservation. Tony Abbott is yet to weigh in. The film is set to be directed by former Tim Burton art director Deane Taylor….which, isn’t Michael Bay, so that’s already a big plus.
So who is going to be stepping into those famous red overalls? Ryan Kwanten, most recently seen doing things like this on True Blood:
The story will reportedly center around Blinky Bill, embarking on an adventure that takes him away from his hometown of Greenpatch to find his missing father. The majority of the original characters are set to return.
Here’s the old theme song, for nostalgia’s sake:
Mmmm, dat banjo.
